Briarwood House - Call of Cthulhu

Enter the depths of Briarwood  House...

Briarwood House, set on Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island, is an old, now abandoned, orphanage. Constructed in the mid 18th century, it is the site of a notorious unexplained mystery. On 13th December 1907 the proprietor of the orphanage, Eugene Briarwood, along with the children in his care disappeared, leaving behind the deceased body of his wife, Mary Briarwood. Ownership of the building quickly fell into a legal cat's-cradle as attempts were made to identify the true inheritor of the home. In the years following, the property has stagnated, overtaken by nature and decay as no party responsible for its upkeep could be located. Inevitably, various rumours and myths have also circulated around the event, some seek to explain, others to shock and thrill. 

With all attempts to locate an inheritor for the property hitting dead ends, the conclusion has been made that the property should be handed over to the local government. Due to the building’s marred reputation, local officials have made the decision to auction it off as soon as possible. However, two individuals recently entered the property and have not been seen since. They were reported as missing persons by their loved ones two months ago. 

Still eager to remove the Briarwood House from their property portfolio, but fearing potential media kickback, the local government manager in charge has decided to commission a survey of the property to confirm the safety of the building and to hopefully put to bed the rumours of occult disturbances. Once the investigators have confirmed the building is safe the government official can then mark the property for auction.

The party is composed of the investigators who have been commissioned by the local government official in charge of the building. They may come from a varied background, but should be appropriate for the job of confirming or debunking any paranormal/occult disturbances in the building.
